The past two years were dominated by online conferences, due to the COVID pandemic.
Not having to travel anywhere, saving time as well as hotel and transportation costs
made conference attendance somewhat easier. But interactions between conference attendees,
that usually occur during coffee breaks etc. diminished during the pandemic time [

]. In my opinion, that was the biggest downside of the online conference era, because
collaborations among scientists, that often result from scientific meetings, have
a major impact on scientific progress [
