Background: Colorectal cancer is the most common type of cancer of the gastrointestinal track
worldwide and the second leading cause of cancer related death in the United States.
In Crete, between 1992 and 2013 there were registered 25.1 new cases per 100.000 per
year. Many genetic and environmental factors are associated with colorectal cancer,
while surgery remains the gold standard of its treatment.
